Assemblyman Rooney Applauds Gorsuch Nomination, Chastises Booker And Menendez

WAYNE, NJ — Assemblyman Kevin J. Rooney (R–Bergen) today applauded the U.S. Senate’s appointment of Neil Gorsuch to the U.S. Supreme Court. He issued the following statement:

“Judge Neil Gorsuch is one of the most qualified jurists to be nominated to the Supreme Court in decades and possess the temperament and knowledge to make an excellent justice. He is a worthy successor to Justice Antonin Scalia and I am sure Justice Gorsuch will interpret the U.S. Constitution as our nation’s founders intended and not legislate from the bench. The people of New Jersey and throughout the nation should be gratified that the U.S. Supreme Court vacancy has been filled by a person of vast experience in the law and superior credentials and judicial temperament.

“I am, however, disappointed in the unprecedented political theatrics in Washington that preceded Judge Gorsuch’s nomination, which served only to further divide our nation. It is troubling that neither of New Jersey’s U.S. Senators supported a man of such obvious qualifications as Judge Gorsuch. Senators Cory Booker and Bob Menendez were elected to represent all the people of New Jersey, not to engage in endless partisan gamesmanship. If they won’t support a Supreme Court nominee with Mr. Gorsuch’s credentials and character who will they support?

“I hope now that Judge Gorsuch is confirmed to the U.S. Supreme Court, the people we elected to represent us in Congress will focus on developing bipartisan solutions to our nation’s problems.”
